June, 2006 through August, 2006

  • was appointed Chair of the Westchester County’s Citizen’s Task Force on Deer Management and Forest Regeneration. The appointment was made by the Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation. (6/06). This new Task Force, amongst other things, is addressing problems of invasive plant species, acid rain, invasive earthworms and diseases killing trees and plants. Bill also serves as Chair of the Westchester County Parks Board.
  • was relected as a Director to a two year term of Farrel Corp. Farrel Corp., a public company headquartered in Ansonia, Connecticut, designs, manufactures, sells and services state-of-the-art Banbury mixing machines and associated equipment for mixing rubber and plastics. Bill also chairs Farrel’s Compensation Committee and serves on its Audit Committee.

December, 2005 through February, 2006

  • On December 19, 2005, Joe obtained a $4.5 million settlement in the case of Barilla v. Giangrasso et al., after three weeks of trial in Nassau County Supreme Court. The client, who was 18 years old at the time, suffered multiple injuries when the car in which he was a passenger crashed at high speed into the rear end of a tractor trailer truck which was stopped on the roadway at night. Mr. Barilla's injuries included a severe stretch injury to the brachial plexus, rendering his right arm mostly paralyzed despite surgery, chronic severe pain from a torn nerve root in his neck, and a closed head injury. The settlement was one of the largest ever achieved for such injuries, and one of the largest for a motor vehicle accident in Nassau County in recent years.

  • lectured in White Plains, New York on September 16, 2005 on “The Freedom Of Information: Cameras In The Courtroom” for Lorman Education Services as part of a seminar entitled "Open Records Law."
  • As one of the firm's administrative partners, Frank was interviewed by the Westchester County Business Journal on whether legal business for Westchester law firms has been negatively impacted by law firms from New York City or elsewhere that have established offices in Westchester. Frank's comments were reported in the October 31, 2005 issue of the Journal. “I think local firms, like our firm, have entrenched relationships in the business community and it's because of our long-standing and historic reputation that we've established historic relationships. . . . . As for competitiveness, we have a pretty terrific Web site and pride ourselves in being involved in the community and promoting what we do. . . . There are some firms in the city who come here for economic reasons, to get better rent deals than they could get in the city but their practice remains the same. . . . They become a firm in the city that happens to be in a position to continue their New York City work up here.”

  • As a Corporate Sponsor of The Hudson River Museum, located in Yonkers, New York, the Firm is pleased to be a co-sponsor of “Tiffany by Design”, a collection of the Neustadt Museum of Tiffany Art, in New York City. This exhibition explores the construction, fabrication, design and qualities of Tiffany lamps made between 1900 and 1925. The exhibition runs from January 29th through May 15th, 2005.

  • we are pleased to announce that Joseph J. Brophy has joined our firm as Counsel. Joe is a member of the firm's Business Litigation group and chairs the firm's newly established practice area, Medical Malpractice and Personal Injury. Joe is best known as one of the leading plaintiff's medical malpractice litigators in the Hudson Valley. Joe's experiences also include notable cases in the areas of legal malpractice, commercial litigation and defamation (1/1/2005).

  • was re-elected President and was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of Food PATCH. The mission of Food PATCH, a certified affiliate of Second Harvest, the largest domestic hunger relief charity in the United States, is to alleviate hunger and minimize food waste in Westchester County.
