Founded by Robert J. McCarthy and Elmer Lee Fingar (now deceased),
McCarthy Fingar has been a leader in the legal and business
communities for over 60 years. Our attorneys have come to
us from a divergent group of law schools, from other law firms,
from corporations, and from the judiciary. Our attorneys demonstrate
a special blend of skills and know how which helps our clients

Over the years, the firm has drawn on the judiciary for partners
and counsel. Former Justice Sondra
M. Miller, who retired in 2005 after more than 15 years
at the Appellate Division, Second Department, is Chief Counsel
to the firm. Past members of the firm include the late judges
Frederick P. Close, Gerald Nolan, and Arthur D. Brennan, all
former members of the Appellate Division, Second Department,
the late Hon. Charles H. Griffiths, Surrogate of Westchester
County, and Leonard Rubenfeld, a former Supreme Court Justice
and Associate Justice of the Appellate Term. Hon. Timothy
J. Sullivan, late Justice of the Supreme Court, was a member
of the firm before going on the bench.
