John is an intellectual property lawyer with a rich variety of experience and more than twenty years of experience in patents and trademarks. John’s extensive patent prosecution experience extends across a broad range of the technical arts. He has developed special expertise in the mechanical and electromechanical arts, including a wide variety of cutting edge technical areas including papermaking technology and machinery, industrial textiles, packaging technologies, window shades and blinds. medical devices, electromagnetic shielding, passive solar heating technologies; and business methods.. John's physics background and broad experience enable him to quickly grasp and ably protect a wide variety of complex inventions. In addition, John has litigated and licensed many of the intellectual property rights he acquires for clients, bringing his understanding of the underlying technology as an asset in such contexts. He has also done extensive work in the trademark area, clearing marks for use, prosecution trademarks in the US and overseas and then licensing and litigating the trademark rights of his clients. |

- review and analyze domestic trademark search reports and prepare trademark clearance memoranda; file and prosecute trademark applications.
- advise clients in connection with their domestic and foreign trademark filing strategy and maintain client trademark portfolios; prepare cease and desist letters; prosecute TTAB proceedings; research and prepare memorandums and strategize for trademark infringement cases.
- prepare and prosecute U.S. and foreign patent applications; organize patent applications for U.S. and foreign filing; file and prosecute PCT applications; and conduct infringement, patentability and state of art investigations and draft appropriate legal opinions.
- conduct due diligence and draft and negotiate domestic and international intellectual property based agreements, sales contracts, licenses and confidentiality agreements in connection with large corporate mergers, acquisitions and commercial lending transactions for financial based clients.
- draft and negotiate software, hardware, coexistence and outsourcing agreements.
