Judge Edward P. Borrelli is Counsel in our Trusts & Estates, Matrimonial & Family Law, Appellate Practice and Mediation & Arbitration Practice groups. Judge Borrelli joins the firm following an illustrious 40 year career in the New York State Unified Court System, where he has presided over a very wide variety of proceedings, including Civil and Criminal jury trials and non-jury trials, high exposure Supreme Court Civil litigation, matrimonial, parental and grandparental child custody, visitation, child relocation, child support, domestic violence, elder law, adult guardianship and guardianship compliance enforcement proceedings.
Judge Borrelli has served as a full-time trial JHO and Special Referee in Supreme Court in Westchester, Dutchess and Orange Counties and Family Court in Putnam and Orange Counties as well as Yonkers City Judge.
Judge Borrelli also administrated and served as representative judicial faculty member at the P.E.A.C.E (Parent Education and Custody Effectiveness) Programs for the 9th Judicial District. The goal of the P.E.A.C.E. Program is to minimize the impact on the children of divorcing parents during and after litigation in the Supreme and Family Courts.
Prior to assuming judicial office, Judge Borrelli served for 23 years in the NYS Unified Court System Education and Training Office where he was responsible for the orientation and continuing education programs for New York State’s Judiciary. Judge Borrelli has also assisted in CJE programs for the National Judicial College, the National Judge’s Association, the American Bar Association and New York State Bar Association and many Court systems of other nations, states and CJE/CLE providers.
Judge Borrelli frequently serves as a faculty member at the New York State Judicial Institute.
For more than 3 decades, Judge Borrelli has also served in various capacities on the NYS Advisory Committee on Judicial Ethics (ACJE) including 2nd Department Chair, Counsel, Special Counsel and voting member. Judge Borrell currently serves as a voting member and is Chair of the statewide Judicial Campaign Ethics Subcommittee of the ACJE.
