Tropea, 87 N.Y.2d 727, 665 N.E.2d 145, 642 N.Y.S.2d 575 (1996) and frequently lectures on child relocation issues, was interviewed by the New York Times (3/28/1996) on child relocation cases. In the interview, Kathleen, who represented the mother in Tropea, said that Tropea should not be read as endorsing the traditional view of custody disputes that a mother should always triumph. She then had this to say:
"'More and more fathers are gaining custody of their children,' Ms. Donelli said, pointing to a 1993 Court of Appeals decision that blocked a father with custody from moving to New Jersey with his new wife to ease their commute to their jobs. 'Now there is less of a burden for a custodial parent to gain permission to relocate,' she added."
