April 23, 2012We are pleased to announce that Milena S. Mishev has joined the firm as a partner and is a member of our Intellectual Property group, which is chaired by Peter D. Aufrichtig. Milena brings to McCarthy Fingar a decade of experience in trademark and unfair competition law, as well as copyright law. As a member of our Intellectual Property group, which also includes Peter D. Aufrichtig and David A. Menken, Milena will serve clients in a number of capacities, including business transactions, mergers and acquisitions, trade secret protection, and various other intellectual property and information technology matters. Many of Milena’s clients are based outside the United States, particularly in Europe. Milena is also qualified as a European attorney, accredited to the practice of law in Bulgaria. David's clients, who include software developers and others in the information technology field, seek his advice regarding numerous technology and web site management issues. Amongst other things, David helps client deal with rights in open source software, development of social media sites, and policies for the collection, safeguarding and dissemination of proprietary and personally identifiable information.

The show aired live on Monday, April 9, 2012, at 10 am, on Westchester's WVOX-AM/1460 and streamed on wvox1460.com.
April 09, 2012David A. Menken, a member of our Intellectual Property and Corporate & General Business groups, has achieved certification as an Information Privacy Professional ("CIPP"), with a specialty in US privacy laws and policies, through the International Association of Privacy Professionals. The "CIPP/US" credential is earned by demonstrating a strong foundation in U.S. privacy laws and regulations and an understanding of the legal requirements for the responsible transfer of sensitive personal data to/from the United States, the European Union and other jurisdictions. David has expertise in advising businesses which collect data using traditional methods and via the Web on compliance with data security and privacy laws and policies.
March 12, 2012David A. Menken, a member of our Intellectual Property and Corporate & General Business groups, spoke on laws relating to municipal government use of social media at the Westchester Municipal Planning Federation's Land Use Training Institute, at Pace University’s Lubin Graduate Center in White Plains on March 12, 2012. His discussion touched on the benefits of social media to local government and compliance with "open government" requirements. He also reviewed the various elements of social media policies that he recommends to his governmental clients. Many of these issues are discussed in David's outline.
February 27, 2012David A. Menken, a member of our Corporate & General Business and Intellectual Property groups, has been named to the Board of Governors of the World Trade Council of the Westchester County Association. The World Trade Council is the international trade arm of the Westchester County Association. Its mission is to promote and facilitate international trade for companies within Westchester County and the lower Hudson Valley. This includes helping local companies expand their international presence as well as highlighting Westchester County as a venue for international investment and partnerships.
February 23, 2012David A.
