Cannabis Law

James K. Landau, Commercial Litigation

The McCarthy Fingar Team

McCarthy Fingar’s Cannabis Law attorneys group is uniquely qualified to help our clients succeed in White Plains, Westchester and throughout the New York metro region in the highly regulated medical marijuana, CBD/hemp and emerging adult-use marijuana industries. Cannabis businesses must cope with numerous evolving and sometimes conflicting federal, state and local laws and regulations that govern growing, manufacturing and distribution of cannabis and products derived from the plant. In addition, these laws and regulations govern business activities that are ancillary to those of basic legal cannabis business. Our Cannabis lawyers, together with the other lawyers in the firm, have decades of experience in banking, finance, real estate development, leasing, land use, zoning, entity formation, corporate transactions, taxation, municipal law and litigation.

Leaders in the Community

Representing clients in new industries presents challenges for lawyers. Beyond advising individual businesses, our cannabis attorneys are committed to strengthening, defending, and educating the public and legal community to enhance the credibility of the industry. Our lawyers are educators, writers and speakers. We speak to business groups and lawyers on a variety of cannabis legal issues.

Jim Landau, who leads our Cannabis Law group, has become a thought leader in the New York Cannabis legal community, frequently writing and speaking on such topics as attorney ethics, and banking and licensing of cannabis businesses. Jim is a member of the New York State Bar Association‘s Committee on Cannabis Law. Jim also Co-Chairs the Westchester County Bar Association’s Cannabis Law Committee, and Chairs the Regulatory Committee of the Hudson Valley Cannabis Industry Association.
