Founded in 1946, McCarthy Fingar, with offices in White Plains, New York, serves the legal needs of a diverse group of clients throughout New York, Connecticut, Florida, and beyond. Founded by Robert J. McCarthy and Elmer Lee Fingar (both now deceased), McCarthy Fingar has been a leader in the legal and business communities for over 70 years. Our attorneys come to us from a divergent group of law schools, from other law firms, from the government, and from the judiciary. Our lawyers demonstrate a special blend of skills and know-how which helps our clients succeed in their business and personal planning, in transactional matters and in litigation.
Over the years, the firm has drawn on the judiciary for partners and counsel. Former Justice Sondra M. Miller, who retired in 2005 after more than 15 years at the Appellate Division, Second Department, is Chief Counsel to the firm. Retired Judge Edward P. Borrelli currently serves as Counsel to the firm. He has served as a Yonkers City Judge and as a full-time trial Judicial Hearing Officer and Special Referee in Supreme Court and Family Courts in Westchester, Dutchess, Putnam and Orange Counties. Judge Borrelli has presided over Civil and Criminal jury trials and Supreme Court Civil proceedings, including several years presiding over Matrimonial trials and Guardianship compliance enforcement proceedings. Past members of the firm include the late judges Frederick P. Close, Gerald Nolan, and Arthur D. Brennan, all former members of the Appellate Division, Second Department, the late Hon. Charles H. Griffiths, Surrogate of Westchester County, and the late Leonard Rubenfeld, a former Supreme Court Justice and Associate Justice of the Appellate Term. Hon. Timothy J. Sullivan, late Justice of the Supreme Court, was a member of the firm before going on the bench.
